Combo Bombo

The regular members of Combo Bombo have been performing together for over two years and have had extensive experience as individual musicians and with other groups. Our wide-ranging performance background lends itself to a dynamic and experienced group of young professional musicians.
Vincent Bradley BMus (Melb) (Trumpet/Vocals):
Vincent has had extensive and varied experience as a performer. Beginning as an 11 year old at pubs on harmonica, and later on trumpet his appearances include
Paynesville Jazz Festival, Wangaratta Jazz Festival, Dizzy’s Big Band/Jam Sessions, Beijing CD Jazz Club, Beijing, China, Port Fairy Folk Festival, Blues Brothers 2000 movie, and the Melbourne Blues Brothers Anniversary Shows.
As a vocalist, Vincent has performed at many corporate functions, weddings and pub gigs with his 10-piece party band Mr Toad’s Wild Ride including the Rialto, the Grand Hyatt Ballroom and a Channel 31 appearance. He has also appeared on The Denise Drysdale Show on Channel 9 with Blues Band Instant Blues.
He has performed in South Australia and Tasmania with the Footscray-Yarraville City Brass Band and at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre with Mexican band Los Romanticos.
Vincent is a versatile musician, being able to play trumpet, flugel horn, tenor horn, French horn, trombone and harmonica as well as his vocal talents.
In 2004 Vincent took part in the Melbourne International Festival of Brass performing in masterclasses with Sydney Jazz trumpeter Scott Tinkler and international artists Allen Vizzutti, Jim Pugh and Eijiro Nakagawa.
He recently completed an international tour to China with the Australian Youth Band performing on Trombone (and occasionally didgeridoo). Highlights included performances on the Great Wall of China and for the International Olympic Committee. He also plays with the talented and well known Australian folk pop artist Liz Frencham in her newest project, The Dream Seat, appearing regularly at popular live music venues across Melbourne.
Vincent is currently completing Fourth Year at Melbourne University’s Conservatorium of Music studying Trumpet, Voice and Music Education.
He currently teaches Brass at Whittlesea College, Essex Heights Primary and Plenty Valley Christian School.
Clare Jephson BMus (Melb) AMusA (Piano/Keyboard):
Clare began playing piano at the age of 5 and her first performance was at 6. Highlights as a young classical pianist include performing as a soloist with Heidelberg Symphony Orchestra and various prize-winning Eisteddfod appearances throughout Victoria.
Clare has studied with international pianists Rebecca Chambers, Olga Kharitonova and Benjamin Martin and performed with jazz artists Henry Manetta, Steve Sedergreen and members of the successful Australian group The Cat Empire.
In 1999, Clare was awarded her Associate Diploma in Music Performance (AMusA) and in March 2004 graduated from her Bachelor of Music at Melbourne University. She has also completed her graduate Diploma in Education at Melbourne University.
Her background as a jazz artist began in 2001 with her first performance at Dizzy’s Jazz Club in Melbourne. She has performed regularly at Dizzy’s including the running of “Baby Jazz” jam sessions once a month.
Performance highlights also include the Wangaratta Jazz Festival, Beijing CD Jazz Club, Beijing, China, BMW Edge Federation Square for the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, performances at Manchester Lane Jazz Club, Monbulk Jazz Festival, and at various functions and pub gigs.
Clare has had extensive experience as a performer at wedding ceremonies and other functions and events. She has performed with the Australian Youth Band on piano, flute and saxophone, including appearances in Australia Day, Moomba and Bendigo Easter Festival Parades and has toured numerous times in Victoria and New South Wales with them. She recently completed an international tour to China with AYB including a performance on the Great Wall of China and for members of the International Olympic Committee.

Clare currently teaches piano, woodwind and music theory at Plenty Valley Christian School.
Joshua Holt (Bass):
Josh is currently studying for a Bachelor of Music at Victorian College of the Arts after completing two years of a Music degree at the Conservatorium of Music at Melbourne University in 2003 & 2004.
He has performed around Melbourne and Victoria for various Musical Theatre Companies and is currently playing bass for the Melbourne Youth Big Band, directed by Reg Walsh.
Whilst studying his first degree, he was a member of Melbourne University jazz saxophone ensemble Supersax for two years, playing Bass Guitar and Double Bass. Josh’s performances include at BMW Edge Federation Square for the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, and various pubs and functions.
Chris Broomhead BMus(Hons)(VCA) GradDipEd(Melb)(Drums):
Chris is a Graduate of the esteemed Victorian College of the Arts Music Department. He has a Bachelor of Music with Honours in Performance and has also completed a Graduate Diploma of Education at Melbourne University.
Chris has been performing on Drums since the age of 7 and highlights include performances at the Melbourne Concert Hall, ABC Iwaki Auditorium, Melba Hall at Melbourne University, Robert Blackwood Hall at Monash University, Bennetts Lane and Manchester Lane Jazz Clubs.
Chris has performed in many Musical Productions with various Melbourne Theatre Companies including Jesus Christ Superstar, Les Miserables, Mack & Mabel, Sweet Charity and 42nd Street. During his music degree Chris was awarded 2nd prize in the Chris Krans Music Award and he has won various other awards for drumming. He currently teaches drumkit at Narre Warren South P – 12 College, and Donvale and Waverley Christian Colleges.
Nathaniel Poynter BMus (Melb ) BTeach (Melb) (Saxophone):
Than has been involved in music since the age of fourteen, when he first took up the saxophone. Since then he has completed a bachelor of music and bachelor of teaching, both completed at The University of Melbourne. Than has had an extensive performing career in number of different genres.
He has been a member of the Esstee big band for seven years, which has had a residency at Manchester Lane for two and half years, performed at the Wangaratta Jazz festival for seven years and has also been a part of The Melbourne International Jazz Festival.
He is a member of nationally acclaimed hip/hop outfit SS Pecker, which regularly plays gigs in Melbourne and other capital cities. The band has also supported New York band The Royal Crown Revue at the Forum in Melbourne.
Than has also had a plethora of experience in classical music. From commissioned saxophone quartets, to being a member of the Granger Wind Symphony for six years.
Along with jazz and classical music, Than has performed in Latin groups, Celtic groups and a number of amateur and professional musicals.
As well as having a busy performing career, Than has enough time to teach five days a week at various schools around Melbourne and its eastern suburbs.
Than plays all saxophones, clarinets and flute.
